CicLAvia

CicLAvia is a Los Angeles nonprofit that temporarily transforms city streets into car-free public spaces where people can walk, bike, roll, play, and experience their communities in a different way. Inspired by Bogotá’s Ciclovía, the first CicLAvia took place in 2010; since then, more than 1.8 million people have explored nearly 379 miles of open streets across Los Angeles County.

More than a recurring street festival, CicLAvia uses these temporary transformations to demonstrate what streets can become when people rather than cars take priority. Its work connects active transportation and public health with community, local businesses, sustainability, and the simple joy of experiencing Los Angeles at a human pace—turning familiar transportation infrastructure, if only for a day, into shared public space.
